I never knew my grandfather. I never got to sit on his knee as he rocked me, I never got to hear his war stories, and he never got to teach me how to bait a hook on those bluegill ponds behind the family land. I feel like I missed out on a lot that life has to offer a man because my grandfather passed away before I was born. I carry that with me.
Richard Hawkins - it was his name, it was a family name (also my late uncle's), and it was the name my mother gave me the day I was born. Nowadays most don’t call me by Richard or even know that it’s the name on my records, but I carry his name with me every day and I aim to make it proud. I aim to make it something honorable for the man whose blood runs through my veins. The man who passed down that name down to me.
A few years back I decided that every product we put our name on would also bear his name. It serves as a checks and balances with our work. If I’m proud enough to put his name on it, you better believe that it’s a quality good. You’ll find RICHARD HAWKINS on every Dixie Reserve Co. tag these days. Wear it for all of the grandfathers that you aim to make proud. Wear it proud, Friends.
