MUHLENBERG (HAND-INKED)
“Daddy won’t you take me back to Muhlenberg County down by the Green River where Paradise lay.” I grew up in a backwards old Peabody coal county in Western Kentucky that’s often remembered so many times that my memories are worn. It was one of those counties that you couldn’t wait to run from when you were younger, but run back to as you get older to bring those memories back to life as often as you can.
I did a lot of thinking when the late folk/country/Americana legend, John Prine, passed in 2020. Prine's "Paradise" about my hometown has been the anthem of every generation that has called Muhlenberg County home for nearly half a century. Whether you knew every B-Side track from the “Angel from Montgomery” or just that one…for that 3-4 minutes of 3/4 time, enemies could almost break bread. It brought us all together and made us proud to be from where we were from. We've raised any and everything you can put in an aluminum can or solo cup to that song. Thank you, John for making me proud to be from MUHLENBERG COUNTY. I know a part of your soul is floating down the Green River where Paradise lay. Thanks, John.
